About the Use of Dry Rot Sensors

Question 1
Grain orientation does not matter.

Question 2
Color change from blue to yellow is positive indication of active dry rot.

Question 3
There is no deterioration in the dry rot sensor product over the periods stored so far (about 3 years) so a long shelf life is expected. It's a good idea to store away from direct sunlight (ie in the box).

Question 4
Weather. Sunlight will bleach the sensors over a long period. Rainwater will eventually dilute the bio-active reagent. They can be inserted from the outside of a building. I would recommend that in such a situation they are fully inserted to protect against weather.

Question 5
There is no minimum depth but it is a good idea to push the dry rot sensor right up to the cap as this helps seal the hole. Its not essential but it helps speed up the equilibrium time.

Question 6
Fit doesn't have to be tight, but sensor must be in contact with substrate (masonry, wood or plaster) at at least one point.

Question 7
Time to equilibrate is 4 days to 14 days (usually leave for 14 days due to inherent variability in vigor of various isolates of dry rot).

Question 8
Will only react to dry rot not wet rot.
