How Mold Forms in Buildings

Molds are tiny microscopic organisms, and with over 100,000 different species, molds are in important part of the ecosystem, whether we like them or not. Outdoors, mold breaks down organic matter such as fallen leaves and dead plants and trees. Indoors, we don't need that service, and when they start breaking down organic matter in our homes, mold is a serious problem. All molds require moisture to reproduce. they reproduce by releasing thousands of tiny spores which are invisible to the naked eye and float through the air around us. Airborne mold spore concentrations can become unhealthful when large areas are wet for prolonged periods. That's why you're more likely to notice mold in your bathroom.
